CAF Projects
Costa Rica PDF Print E-mail

CAF is raising money to help the community of Nosara, Costa Rica. This jungle town that sits right off of the coast is working together to improve education for their children. The families of the Santa Teresita school got together in 2000 and started building a school for their kids which opened in 2002. Some of the children, living without running water or electricity, walk through 3 rivers just to get to school everyday. For the 2009 school year they are expecting 90 students. There are not enough classrooms to educate the children as the teachers would like nor do they have any school books and have minimal supplies. CAF just visited Santa Teresita for the 2nd time and brought school books and tons of supplies. We are raising money to buy each student at least one school book. Our goal is to provide each student a book in math, science and social studies.

Here are a list of things the Santa Teresita school needs:

  • building additional 2 classrooms
  • building a retaining wall where there has been mass erosion where the school sits
  • providing school books and supplies, desks and chairs, and physical education supplies
  • adding to the eating hall that only seats about 15 kids at the moment
  • improving their playground

Our goal is to raise about $30,000 and have these projects completed before the new year. If you are interested in helping attainthis goal, please visit the donate page or contact Kelley Brupbacher.

San Marcos de Ocotopeque is on the western side of the country almost touching the border of El Salvador. This is a motivated community. San Marcos is eager to work with CAF to get better education in their community and other communities in their country. Almost all schools in the area need books and supplies. Most schools need help with their roofs, windows (or lack of) and more school rooms. We are very fortunate to have Doris Fuentes as the community leader for San Marcos who will be assisting us with our efforts. CAF is heading back down in early Fall to begin efforts in San Marcos.

You can read more about the recent trip under the blog section.

Cerro Azul is an amazing community in Panama. The town is perched atop a mountainous region 45-minutes east of Panama City. Once there, travelers are welcomed by friendly locals whose quaint town makes you feel at home. Cerro Azul's hospital, while functional, is in need of supplies. Please see the donate page and learn how you can help Cerro Azul.

Here is a list of exact needs they have requested. If you have supplies not listed here, please contact Kelley Brupbacher.

CAF is working with people in Limon, an area just outside popular surf spots, Rancho Santana and Popoyo. This beautiful area is located on the southern coast of Nicaragua. In our recent trip to Nicaragua we were able to visit with two schools, Limon 1 and Limon 2. The teachers supplied us with a list of names of kids in need of a school uniform. In Nicaragua, children cannot attend school unless they have a uniform. We are currently trying to raise enough money to buy uniforms for the kids at Limon 2. Please visit the donate page to sponsor a child for $20.

Here are other items currently being collected for this community.

  • new or gently used clothing
  • books and school supplies
  • money for water well repairs

If you are interested in traveling down to this area please contact us or go to www.nicaraguasurfreport.com .
